Orange Tofu Bowl
Every winter my fridge fills up with blood oranges, navel oranges, lemons, clementines, and beautiful citrus fruits – thanks to their affordability, accessibility, and sweet, deeeelicious flavor. I know I’ve said this before but the citrus season is TRULY the highlight of the winter season!! 🍋💛
That also means that I’ve been eating and cooking with LOTS of oranges. So today I’m sharing a recipe highlighting these lovely oranges 🤩 This sweet and slightly sour Orange Tofu Bowl is super simple and quick to make, so it’s perfect when you need a low-effort (but delicious) weeknight lunch or dinner!
ORANGE TOFU BOWL RECIPE
Cooking time 35 min
Serves 3-4
Ingredients
- 1 block tofu (400 gr or 14.1 oz)
- 4 oranges, juiced and pulp removed
- 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 3 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
- 1,5 tablespoons freshly grated ginger
- 1 teaspoon dried chili
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 3-4 tablespoons water
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- Olive oil
- Soy sauce
- Veggies of your choice, I used green beans and sweet peppers
- Rice or oat kernels to serve
- Spring onions, sesame seeds, and lime wedges to garnish
Instructions
TOFU
- Press the excess water from your tofu and cut it into bite-sized pieces. Add a drizzle of olive oil to your pan and pan-fry your tofu until it becomes nice and crispy. Season with soy sauce.
SAUCE
- Meanwhile your tofu is cooking, heat your pan (medium heat) and add the sesame oil. Add garlic, ginger, and chili flakes, and sautée for a few minutes. Add orange juice, vinegar, and soy sauce (add according to taste, start with 1-2 tablespoons).
- Let the sauce simmer over low-medium heat for about 10 minutes. Mix water & cornstarch together and at it to the sauce. Let everything simmer until the sauce is thickened. After your sauce is ready, add the tofu and give it a good mix. Serve with rice (or oat kernels like I did!) and your favorite veggies. Garnish with sesame seeds and spring onion.
VEGGIES
- You can enjoy the orange tofu with whatever veggies you prefer! I wanted this recipe to be super easy & effortless so I went for green beans (quickly boiled in salted water) and steamed sweet paprika.
